Two feet on the ground are worth more than a whole body on the couch

When you think about exercising, just go out and do it. It doesn't matter as much whether you are kicking your ass as it does whether you are out there doing something to move your body. I tend to think in perfectionistic terms, but the fact is, getting out and exercising in any form is better than sitting in here daydreaming about exercising.

So this is my new mode of operation: Thinking about exercising? Not doing much right now--nothing important? Go do it. Making dinner can wait. Washing clothes can wait. Go exercise now. Not feeling great isn't an excuse not to at least take a walk, so go do it.

When I got home from work today, I checked my email and talked to my mother on the phone. Then I sat on my couch, stressed out by several events in the last 24 hours, dwelling on things that were said, worries that have cropped up, etc. I snapped myself out of my reverie. "What are you doing?" I called to my husband in the next room.

"Nothing much," he replied. He was on his computer.

"Want to go for a walk?"

"Um, okay."

So we did--a very long walk . . . through the park and into the pulse of the city . . . a long enough walk to tire me out. And I got home feeling lighter and craving a healthier dinner than I did before we left.

I try to do this too. At least get a walk in every day that it isn't raining. It's better than not exercising at all and it helps reinforce the habit of doing some kind of physical activity every day. Plus, I feel good getting my husband out there too, since I know it's good for his health, too.

I think this blog will be an inspiration to me to help me stick with my health aspirations too.

Wow that is so great. It's hard to remember but sometimes all it takes is a walk outside. :)

It's definitely helping me, M, and CSMC, to just go out and take even a short walk when I think of it.
